About the Depression Test
The following test is designed to provide an indication into how you perceive yourself as well as your vulnerability to depression. The results will allow you to see how likely you are to suffer from depression in the future.
What if I’m vulnerable to depression?
If you’ve taken the time to answer the questions honestly and your results indicate you are vulnerable to depression do not be alarmed! Depression is surprisingly common and many people will experience some form of depression. It is important to understand that depression has a number of causes, a number of treatments. Genetic predispositions, stressful events, diet and many other factors are known to contribute to our likelihood of suffering from depression. While we know about these factors there is still a great deal we don’t understand about depression. One thing is certain though, depression is a type of illness which causes chemical imbalances in your brain and it is not simply a matter of ‘poor attitude’ or ‘waking up to yourself’.
Learn to observe yourself
There are number of signs which may indicate you are heading into a depressive state. Watching these symptoms closely and seeking the advice of your doctor will help you better manage your mental health.
- General lack of motivation and care Feeling hopelessness and that you can’t change anything Lower self belief and confidence Inability to decide Lowering of your attention span Lack of energy Things which would relax or excite you no longer do Feeling tense and unable to sleep Contemplating suicide
If you’ve noticed any of these symptoms do not feel guilty about feeling them or who you are, talk to your doctor, your friends and family. Bottling your emotions will only contribute to the problem when help is readily available.
